Thorough Check-ups
When you visit us for a check-up every six months we will always:
- Ask about any medical updates such as new medication
- Thoroughly examine the teeth, gums and oral tissues to check your oral health
- Perform an oral cancer screening
- Check any current dental restorations
- Ask if there have been any changes to your teeth, gums or oral tissues over the last six months
These check-ups are an essential part of your oral care. By picking up on any issues early, you have the best chance of quick treatment and avoiding complications.
Fillings
We recommend a dental filling when dental decay has damaged a tooth to the point it requires treatment. Without treatment, the tooth is weak and will progressively break down, and more complex treatment will be required to save it.
At this stage we can remove the decay and restore the tooth with an amalgam filling. We also offer cosmetic white fillings if you would prefer a restoration that is less disruptive to the overall look of your smile.
Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene refers to the way that you care for your teeth between visits to the dentist, keeping them clean and healthy. By effectively brushing and flossing your teeth, you have a really great chance of avoiding dental disease.
At Homerton Dental Care we offer tips on oral hygiene during your check-ups with us. We may also identify signs of gum disease, which in its early stages can be reversed with the right care.
For more detailed and extensive oral hygiene advice, and professional cleaning, we recommend our hygienist.
They will be able to provide you with various helpful oral hygiene services including:
- Professional teeth and gum cleaning
- Bespoke advice on how to clean your teeth effectively
- Bespoke advice on how to work around dexterity, medical or other issues that make oral care challenging
- Gum disease treatment and monitoring
Sometimes our hygienist may work directly with your dentist to provide a plan for more advanced gum disease treatment.
Extractions
Sometimes, no matter how excellent your oral hygiene and dental care is, you will need a tooth extracted. Dental disease and accidents do happen unfortunately.
When you do need a tooth extracted we will ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the treatment. We have the latest local anaesthetic application techniques to ensure there’s no pain when the tooth is removed. We will also discuss tooth replacement options with you before the extraction (where possible) to ensure a smooth transition to your chosen replacement treatment.
Crowns & Bridges
We can use crowns and bridges to restore your smile, maintaining its functionality and aesthetics.
Crowns
Crowns are used to replace the majority of the tooth that sits above the gum line. They are often used where the visible tooth has been damaged through disease or injury and requires replacement. They look completely natural, and blend into the rest of your smile, whilst strengthening your natural tooth and helping you keep it for longer.
Bridges
Dental bridges are used to bridge the gap that is left by a missing tooth. They are usually attached to crowns either side of the gap, which can require some preparation of the natural teeth in order to fit.
Bridges help to prevent the remaining natural teeth from moving and shifting following the loss of a tooth, making them an important and versatile dental restoration treatment.
